Roisin McAllen was preparing for another year at Hogwarts. Last year was hectic, very hectic in fact. Not only had she come face to face with a man she has disliked ever since she started her first year at Hogwarts, but the muggle-borns were being victimized against Lord Voldemort's hatred for them. It was harder for her to deal with when her favourite student, Hermione Granger, became petrified.
"Still..." She thought. "Another year, another new start."
She walked down the stairs and looked around for her niece, Ravina Cross. As Roisin failed to find her, she figured Ravina must have already left to catch the train back to Hogwarts. Ravina had been living with Roisin for nearly two years now, and Roisin did enjoy having her there. She liked the company and they got on well, for the most part.
She sat down at the dining room table and looked down at the Daily Prophet. She gasped.
"What the heck?!"
On the front cover of the Daily Prophet, she saw a photograph of her cousin, Sirius Black. Roisin hadn't heard from Sirius since the end of school, which she was thankful for. She and Sirius never really saw eye to eye. During their school years, Sirius and James Potter liked to go around the school and torment the other students. They didn't pick on Roisin a lot, but when they did...
She shuddered as she remembered what it was like to be at school with them and started to read the newspaper.
When she had finished, she found the owl she used to deliver mail and sent the newpaper to her niece. When the owl had left, she glanced at the time before walking back upstairs to gather her school things. Roisin didn't get the train like the students, she travelled by Floo Powder. It definetely was not her favourite way of travelling but it was fast. She picked up her trunk from her bed and carried over to the massive fireplace she had in her bedroom. She stood inside the fireplace and shouted out her destination as she threw down the powder. Suddenly she was engulfed in green fire and felt like her insides were burning.
Next thing she knew, she was standing in Albus Dumbledore's fireplace. She looked around his office quickly before walked out of the fireplace, trunk in hand.
"Ah Roisin, good to see you again!"
She turned around quickly and faced the headmaster. "Good to see you too Dumbledore." She replied with a smile.
When they had finished talking about how they were and what they had got up to in the Summer, Roisin left Dumbledore's office and walked towards her classroom. She saw Professor McGonagall on the way and stood talking to her before heading towards her classroom again.
She opened the classroom door and a gentle breeze hit her, causing her to shiver a little. She walked in, closing the door behind her, and placed her trunk behind her desk. Everything was where she left it last year which told her no one had entered her classroom since she left.
She walked out of the classroom and walked towards the Great Hall. There were still a few teachers she hadn't seen yet, like Severus Snape. She figured he'd be down in his office in the dungeons. She stood in the doorway of the Great Hall and watched some house elves arrange the tables and benches. She got a feeling the students would be arriving soon so she walked towards her sleeping chambers to freshen up.
A few hours later, there was a knock on her door. Roisin opened the door to see Professor McGonagall.
"Minerva, what's wrong?"
Roisin began to panic. "What?! What's wrong with her?"
"She's in the hospital wing. I've been to see her already, but I cannot stay in there as I have to be present at dinner."
"I understand. I'll head down there right away."
Minerva left as Roisin walked out of her room and locked the door before running towards the hospital wing.
Inside, she saw her niece laying on a bed, with a grown man sitting by her side. As she walked closer to the bed, she recognised the man. Remus Lupin. Roisin and Remus were at school together, and had become quite close friends.
He turned around and a smile grew on his face. "Ree? What are you doing here?"
"I teach Ancient Runes. You?"
"I'm the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher."
Roisin smiled. "Oh, that's good to hear. The last teacher we had was a bit of an idiot. He cared about himself more than his students."
Remus chuckled as Roisin walked next to him. She looked down at her niece. She felt scared for her.
Nothing. Roisin was close to breaking down into tears.
"Ravina! Please wake up!"
Ravina moved a little as her eyes began to open slowly. She looked around the room, recognising the two adults at her side. As Remus began to expain what happened to her, Roisin felt relieved that her niece was alright. Of course she would have to stay in the hospital wing overnight but Ravina appeared to have no signs of major damage. When Remus began talking about Sirius, Roisin sat down on the egde of the bed, allowing her mind to wander. She didn't wish to hear anything about her cousin.
"Well, I must be off now. I should get a good night's sleep before my first lesson tomorrow. You don't have any lessons to teach tomorrow, do you Roisin?"
She shook her head as she moved to sit on the seat. She watched Remus leave the room then turned back to Ravina.
"I... bet I look like an idiot..." She sighed.
Roisin chuckled and smiled. "Just worry about getting better Ravina."
